Guess on the front campus Satur day, May 6, at 3:30 p. m. In keeping with the circus theme, appropriate band recordings pla.ved during each act. The dances included “Kiddies’ Carousel,” “Roberto the Ringless Master,” “Agile Apes,” “Winsome Wonders of the M^ire” featuring Beauteous Betty, “Operation Cut- Up,” “The Sultan’s Shindig,” “Mother Goose Medley,” “The Sky Ballet,” “The IRundering Buf foons,” “Military Magic,” and “Parasol Poetry.” The highlight of the pageant came in the Grand Finale when Vivian Scott, the “Ringless Mas ter,” presented flowers to Betty Bowles, the May Queen. Committees were composed of Orchesis members who sponsored the pageant. Candy-butchers were members of the Beacon. First Holt Captures Softball Tournament Holt Team Defeats Fighting East Wing in Final Contest First Holt defeated First East Wing 17 to 16 in a three-inning game for the championship of the liall softball tournament. First Holt’s victory enables them to retain until the end of the year the banner Avhicb they won as champions in the hall volley ball tournament. First East Wing’s team consist ed of Katie Clifton, catcher; Anna Jane Owens, pitcher; Nell Eley, first baseman; Julie Xolan, second baseman; Sall.v Hagood, third baseman; Jane Xisbet and Bean- fort Law alternating as shortstop ; Lon Urcpihart, right field; Mar.v Jane McDowell, center field; and Laura Matheson, left field. Grace, who is from Spray, is secre tary of the Granddaughters’ Club and a member of the Dramatic Club. Next year she will be a marshal and a senior class representative to the Honor Council. Caroline, of Louisburg, is a mem ber of the Altar Guild, the Grand daughters’ Club, and the choir. She is on the BELLE’S and the Stage Coach staffs. She is a Sigma. Virginia is from Elizabeth City. She is a Mu and a member of the Altar Guild and the Granddaugh ters’ Club. WOODRUFF NEW Y DEADER "TWCA elected its officers for the coming year May 9. They are: Nancy Woodruff, president; Mary Sue Strupe, vice-president; and Sally Dalton, secretary-treasurer. Nancy, of Red Oak, starred for the Sigma basketball team. She is a member of the Glee Club and Dra matic Club. Mary Sue, of Winston-Salem, served as treasurer of the junior class this year and is a member of the Altar Guild. She is a Sigma. Sally, of Charlotte, is president of the freshman class, a Beacon mem ber, a Sigma, and a member of tbe Stage (Unich staff. Granddaughters’ and Dramatic club. SIGMA PI ALPHA Katherine Armistcad, Merre-Lyn Lynch, and Virginia Gilliam are tlie newly elected Sigma Pi Alpha offi cers. Kit will serve as president, Mimi as vice-president, and Virginia as secretary-treasurer for the school year 1950-51. Kit, of Kinston, is just completing her first and junior year at Saint Mary’s. She is a member of the Glee Club, Canterbury Club, and the Dramatic Club. Kit played the part of the scared and sick kleptomaniac, Nancy Gear, in Aliss Davis’ produc tion of “The Young and Fair.” Mimi, of Winston-Salem, is also a second year girl and a junior. She will edit next year’s Stage Coach. This year, Mimi has been a member of the Stage Coach and BELLES staffs, the Altar Guild, and the Can terbury Club. She is a Mu. Over 500 Dancers Followers Of Sonny Cauble’s Orchestra Saint Alary’s annual Junior- Senior was an added climax to the Alay Day festivities on Alay 6. The dance was held from 8:30 p. ni. to 12:00 a. ni. Over 500 dancei's followed the strains of Sonney Cauble’s orchestra under a crepe j'aj'er blue sky. The fol lowing stood in the receiving line welcoming girls and the dates: the junior and senior class presi dents, Rosalie Hnske and Stella Cobbs, with tlieir dates; junior and senior class sponsors, Aliss AlcLanrin and Aliss Ellington; Aliss Al. D. Jones; Dr. and Airs. Stone. “Dreamer’s Holiday,” tlie theme of the dance, was carried out in the decorations. A large butterfly extended above and on either side of the entrance. Opposite, a life- size little girl slept among clouds as shec]) jnmi)ed over a fence near by. The orchestra stand was a background of bine sky and j'ink- tinted clouds. Refreshments of ])uncli and cookies were served from tables on either side of a large I'ot of gold at the end of a crepe paper rainbow. ( I.ASH OFFIFERS IN FRU RE The members of'the figure ear- ried nosegays of spring flowers with ])astel streamers. The Sigma Pi Alpha, national hon orary language fraternity, recpiires its members to maintain not less than a B in all other courses and a B-|- in their language course.
